Gerlach area RV - travel trailer rental

Hi folks-- I live in Gerlach and have two vehicles I am considering renting out for use around the Black Rock Desert.

The first is a 1967 Ford Shasta RV -- 22 ft. long, 300cc straight 6 cylinder engine runs well, with solar panels and a large battery bank, propane fridge, space heater, and water heater, working shower and toilet, and kitchenette. There is an air conditioner which requires external power. It is very funky looking (sorry, my camera broke). I've taken it as far as Reno and Susanville without any trouble, but wouldn't try to take it over the Sierras. It makes it over the railroad tracks just fine to go to Trego - Frog Pond.

The other is a 1991 Fleetwood travel trailer -- 28 ft. long, propane fridge, space heater, and water heater, kitchenette, it's in great condition with a large comfortable entertaining area, the couch folds out into a bed. This requires a 3/4 ton truck or better to move, but I can arrange transportation if necessary. I removed the toilet, but the shower and sinks all work (I suppose I could put the toilet back in... I prefer the porta-potties). It also has an air conditioner which requires external power.

Aside from these, I know of other people in Gerlach who are interested in renting out their travel trailers. Rental would include filling with water and propane, emptying grey/black water, and transportation as necessary. I also have a yard full of building materials (lumber, shade cloth, bicycles) and 2 off-road vehicles for tooling around the desert.

If any of this sounds interesting to you, please contact me@metric.cc, or send a message through tribe.net.

Adam Baer ,a Santa Cruz based artist, will be building a Whale Skeleton sculpture deep playa this upcoming burn. It will be composed of 5 gallon buckets(spine),cut up fiberglass water tank (ribs) and the head/flippers/tail will be a combination of plywood/cardboard/fiberglass . Most all of the materials have or will be salvage and recycled in accordance with the eco-groovy theme this year.
This post is an appeal to anyone interested to participating in any phase of its construction/transport/setup/breakdown. What is needed right now is steel pipe(wrist width&larger),plywood scrap, cardboard, fiberglass cloth and bolts of any size. Personpower, support, monitary controbutions in whatever measure would be appreciated . Please contact me at : Blazin Raisin@tribe.net or spacebaer@hailmail.net or phone at (831) 420 -1522 . This might be a fun way to ramp up to August and I can get a few people in to BRC early if they are interested in helping with playa setup.
Please see the diagram in the photos section.

Ashes

In order not to leave any traces, when you do something, you should do it with your whole body and mind; you should be concentrated on what you do. You should do it completely, like a good bonfire. You should not be a smoky fire. You should burn yourself completely. If you do not burn yourself completely, a trace of yourself will be left in what you do. You will have something remaining which is not completely burned out. Zen activity is activity which is completely burned out, with nothing remaining but ashes. This is the goal of our practice. That is what Dogen meant when he said, “Ashes do not come back to firewood.” Ash is ash. Ash should be completely ash. The firewood should be firewood. When this kind of activity takes place, one activity covers everything.

Hello All:
In the default world I write grants for a large nonprofit. During my time spent mining through piles of possible funders, I tend to come across a lot of fund opportunities for artists and writers. As a year-round gift to the Burning Man community, I tend to post all such opportunities here:
http://tribes.tribe.net/filthy_lucre

If it gets sleepy for awhile it will be because I'm in the middle of writing something huge and scary, but otherwise i hope it will be a really active place. Here's to more artists living as artists, and writers living as writers without financial constraint.

The Magic Garden Bungalow villlage in Thailand Burner Investment Opportunity

Hello all
so I have been in Thailand just short of two months. I came here or more accurately I left my life in Los Angeles to seek healing and growth inwardly and outwardly. I allowed my life in L.A. to become stale and borring. Just too easy. I didn't like the man I was becoming - quite bitter toward myself and relationships. Events were actually pushing me out of L.A. Not getting over losing what I thought was my life time partner and losing my main work contacts. Nothing was keeping me there...except I liked creating chill spaces at parties...which was a fun but expensive hobby and preparing for Burning Man...again another expensive hobby. So I choose to sell/give away everything and venture to Thailand with the intention of physical (still need my hip replacement operation - can't be done in Thailand as I thought) emotional and spiritual healing and Adventure. I now swim everyday in the ocean before 7am and have strengthened the muscles around my right hip to gain greater torso support in order to ease some of the pain. (I've got to the end of this year to come back to the States to get the operation completed.) It's taken 5 years but I have finally re-developed my meditation practice and am doing my best now to respond to life rather then react in slavery.
I always wondered where my natural desire to create environmental chill spaces would take me. This was an enjoyable and rewarding hobby but could I take it to the next step and create a business out of it. This I observe is what I fell into here in Thailand. Specifically Lonely Beach in Koh Chang, Thailand. I am creating what I like to pompously label as the "World's first permanent Burning Man installation on Thailand." The Magic Garden. This includes a restaurant, chill zone with faux fur, and a garden area with two 5-7 person hot tubs. The decor and atmosphere is psychedelic Buddha chill. Adjacent to these structures is The Magic Garden Bungalow Village containing 40 gorgeous bungalows. 15 bungalows with private toliet/hot shower/fan. 15 bungalows with private toliet/hot shower/air conditioning. 6 bungalows with private toliet/hotshower/air con grouped into 3 pairs - each sharing a 4 person hot tub and 4 bungalows with aformentioned stuff and their own private hot tub. There will a center shared chill space/party area - The Power Lounge - similiar to one I created at Burning Man last year. (We'll even have a tribute to "Pinkys" and "Pink Mammoth" of BM called "Pink Dragon" each Sunday afternoon/night - complete with poi, hooping, stripper poles and shadow dancing.) The drawings for all this are at

http://www.snapfish.com/thumbnailshare/AlbumID=37218935/a=34223838_34223838/t_=34223838

These were made by Lang - my Zen contractor in Thailand. He created this on a CAD program and I wasn't able to reproduce the file to send so I simply took photos of it off his monitor. It's really a cool program - when you click on the area it tells you the dimensions of the structure or space in meters. All this is on 4.3 RAI (7500 sq. meters of land - 1.6 acres) that I have leased out for 14 years by creating a Thai/American Company. Costing less per year then my 15' by 15' apartment in Venice! The captions for the drawings explains what you are seeing and the only items missing from the drawings is a 16' aluminum geodisic that'll be brought from the US to serve as the reception/travel agency/guest locker area. This will be below and right of the restaurant. Also, there will be another 16' dome that'll house 3-4 Thai massuesses. The dots are all palm trees. The walk ways will be made of wood. Now the money is in place to build (land is cleared tomorrow by 20 Thai) the three circular structures, - restaurant/chill zone/hot tub garden - the underneath kitchen and rooms,Thai housing for 16, wooden deck next to Banyon Tree that'll have swings connected to the branches and cement paving the front driveway. This will all be finished by April 10th and we will be up and running just prior to 4/20/06 and in time for the Burning Coconut Man Regional.

The Magic Garden Bungalow Village

An experiment in sustainable living art.

Intention - to create a physical and energetic environment that further inspires one to heal, create and explore while living in a community of like minded individuals.

Dividing this two year total $218,850 by $670 per night a full occupancy = 327 nights at full occupancy to break even for two years expenses. That's 164 nights per year at full occupancy.

High season Oct 1st - April 1st (4 months at full occupancy, 2 months at half occupancy) = $100,500
Low Season April 2nd - Sept 30th. (3 months at half occupancy, 3 months at quater occupancy) = $45,225

Total from bungalow rentals per year - $145,725

Other yearly revenue
1) There will be a "Pepsi" fridge at the Power Lounge full of beer, soda, juices for sale - Whatever we sell will have 100% mark up.
2) Commission from selling city bus tickets, mini-bus tickets, ferrie tickets, tour packages = min $3000 per year
3) We get a 50 baht commission off all Thai massages How many per year is your guess good as mine.
4) Bar sales from parties - 100% mark up of what we sell

Two year total from bungalow rentals only - $291,450

Original investment recouped in less then two years and 6 times the investment after 14 years.

Third year operating costs with raises and such - $40,000
Third year return - $145,725. Over $100,000 profit per year by third year.

NOTE ABOUT INCOME TAX AND PREPARATION - Thai law is seven percent of income received, but we do have a very creative local accountant who charges 22,000 baht per year ($550) to allow us to pay the 7% on as little as legally possible.

Now beginning the fourth year will have a 20% increase in rent. From $11,250 to $13,500 for rent for the next 3 years. Then another 20% increase every three years. If we match raising costs, repairs, etc with raising rental fees then for the last 12 years we can make $1,200,000 profit from original $180,000 investment. Feel free to check all figures and tell me where I may be wrong in my calculations.

Now if we sell out earlier then when our 14 year lease is up (of course we can renogiate but who know what land prices will be in 14 years - It has trippled in the last 3 years. )
The sale is based on
1) Our sale price for the business and property and years left on lease
2) Does the purchaser want to simply take over our present lease with it's remaining years?
3) Or can the purchaser negotiate with the owner to begin a brand new lease at whatever they decide.

Minimum cash investment is $10,000.

NOTE: The speed of investment money coming in determines the rate of construction. The first money invested goes to paying back the pre-paid first year lease of this land and contract fee. All the next money goes to building the bungalows (and walkways) at the speed of investment flow. First we will build the 15 bungalows with private toliet, hot shower and fan that rent out for 400 baht. Next will be the 15 bungalows with air conditioning for 600 baht. Then the final bugalows with hot tubs at their prices. So what I am getting at is that we don't have to have all 40 bungalows built to be up and running. I would like to be fully built and open by next high season in Oct. But, who knows, perhaps the weather will be nice in September and this could be a great place to decompress from Burning Man. Up to you.

Thanks...Marcus

Thailand phone number is
071438945 country code is 66

You add 011 for international
and leave out the 0 between the county code 66 and city code, so it becomes;

hello world,
we the Flaming Lotus Girls need to redesign our web site as we move
closer to our goal of taking over the entire universe. we are a group
of men and a lot of women who make large scale collaborative art
incorporating lots and lots of good healthily fire.

take a look at out old web site... http://www.flaminglotus.com

girls, fire, stainless steel, this is a fun site for a good group of
people. If you are interested in helping design this project please
send us a link to something you have designed before... we can do most
of the coding we just need that uber flashy web designing graphic
skills that i know so many of you have out there.

So if you only give it away once this year the FLG's will be the most fun.

Hey All -
If you have a house with a private play room or dungeon that needs cleaning, I'm your gal. I'm a player in the kink world and know exactly how to sanitize and care for your special toys. I can clean your entire home or just your play room with complete discretion.

Or maybe you have some other form of "alternative" lifestyle that requires discretion. Glass lying around and need cleaning? There is nothing in your house that I haven’t seen or probably dont have in my own home.

I ’m starting a new business so my rates are among the lowest in Seattle. Send me an email to discuss the specifics.

Sometimes I manage to hit it when working with environmentalism, sustainable agriculture, international business and intercultural communications, disaster relief, and art.

Hello fellow burners. I am a machinist by trade - lots of skills and experience. I'd love to get into a shop with fewer, conservative homophobic asses. I know my line of work isn't the norm among burners, but if there are some of you out there - I'd love to talk with you.

I'd also like to get involved in some art projects. If any of you have need for machining ideas or knowledge, send me a note.

Hi,

So I (too) finally have gotten around to post some of my employment searching here--thanks David!

Over the past few years I have generally among many good things and a variety of temp jobs, been taking the time focusing on what different employment I really want to step into next.

I have sort of a wide range of experience, learning, and skills, involving varieties of management and duties, and which over the past 10 years, generally fall under these employment titles:

Mental Health Counselor (primarily with children and adolescents)
Vegetarian/Vegan/Raw Foods Chef, Management, etc
Geophysical Land Survey Crew Chief/Member

I am 35, live in Reno, have a BA primarily focused in international affairs, pol sci, econ, history, law, philosophy, and literature; have been to Burning Man since 1998, volunteered as a ranger, and currently for 3 years have volunteered with the Mental Health Branch of Emergency Services.

I have been focusing of late with some temp jobs, getting more into administrative support positions--would like to learn more in this field and with the right business--though I am still wide open for something different, and am willing to relocate.

One wish: I would like to land some more or less full-time (administrative or support) employment with the Black Rock City LLC, if such a complementary position shall open, ahead.

Will email resume etc upon request.

house sitting in april '05

okay, since i'm post-happy, let me just go with it :)

i'll be going to europe sometime in april of '05, and i need an honest and trustworthy person to house/cat/dog sit for two weeks. my dates aren't nailed down, but will be soon.

i have a small one bedroom apartment in a fourplex in the dimond district of oakland.

i have a nervous, super smart scaredy but lovely once you get to know her dog, and two cats that need care and love while i'm gone.

i am looking for a solid stable reliable person who won't give random strangers access to my home, car, checkbook, computer, etc. (i've had friends who have had this experience, so that's why i'm super cautious)

i'm willing to pay for someone who is solid and respectful and loves animals.

all willing applicants can reply to me privately. and if it works out, i will provide a good reference.

country code stickers

for playa gifts, I am planning on having some country code stickers that say "BRC - Black Rock City" made up.

I wanted to order about 150 for myself and I have enough others to order 500 which drops the price down to .68, at 1000 the price is .57, so I am looking for some others that are interested in ordering 50 or more.

I'm not making any money on this, I'm just trying to gather enough people to get the 1000 piece price break. I have a same of a generic "country code" sticker in my photos
