Hi folks-- I live in Gerlach and have two vehicles I am considering renting out for use around the Black Rock Desert.
The first is a 1967 Ford Shasta RV -- 22 ft. long, 300cc straight 6 cylinder engine runs well, with solar panels and a large battery bank, propane fridge, space heater, and water heater, working shower and toilet, and kitchenette. There is an air conditioner which requires external power. It is very funky looking (sorry, my camera broke). I've taken it as far as Reno and Susanville without any trouble, but wouldn't try to take it over the Sierras. It makes it over the railroad tracks just fine to go to Trego - Frog Pond.
The other is a 1991 Fleetwood travel trailer -- 28 ft. long, propane fridge, space heater, and water heater, kitchenette, it's in great condition with a large comfortable entertaining area, the couch folds out into a bed. This requires a 3/4 ton truck or better to move, but I can arrange transportation if necessary. I removed the toilet, but the shower and sinks all work (I suppose I could put the toilet back in... I prefer the porta-potties). It also has an air conditioner which requires external power.
Aside from these, I know of other people in Gerlach who are interested in renting out their travel trailers. Rental would include filling with water and propane, emptying grey/black water, and transportation as necessary. I also have a yard full of building materials (lumber, shade cloth, bicycles) and 2 off-road vehicles for tooling around the desert.
If any of this sounds interesting to you, please contact me@metric.cc, or send a message through tribe.net.

One year later...
Mon, February 11, 2008 - 4:37 PMI am applying for permits in Washoe County for an RV rental business in Gerlach. I have two 28' travel trailers, one 22' travel trailer, and one '67 Ford Shasta RV. Ideally, this will become an equipment rental business too, with generators and other stuff. The services part of the business (water, fuel, delivery) will be add-ons to a rental agreement.
Stay tuned...
